Feel Good stories that don’t really belong to any specific grouping but still need to be told in the Feel Good Depot Kind Of Way..

OK, Donkey Kong was one of my all time favorite games when  was a kid so I am a little biased. Not that I was any good at it though.

So I was looking around on the web and came across these gems.

These T-Shirts are AWESOME… Now I just need someone to make some bootlegs of Donkey Kong with the new themes…

In case you haven’t heard… Unlocking a cell phone becomes illegal tomorrow.

Yep, you heard that right…

That’s because the Librarian of Congress – That is who is in charge of interpreting the Digital Millenium Copyright Act – has ruled that cell phone unlocking is a violation of that law. The librarian made this epic announcement back in October, but allowed a 90 day reprieve before it came into effect which ends tomorrow.

You can read all about it here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2012-26308.pdf but the section that explains this is below:

The Register concluded after a review of the statutory factors that an exemption to the prohibition on circumvention of mobile phone computer programs to permit users to unlock “legacy” phones is both warranted and unlikely to harm the market for such programs. At the same time, in light of carriers’ current unlocking policies and the ready availability of new unlocked phones in the marketplace, the record did not support an exemption for newly purchased phones. Looking to precedents in copyright law, the Register recommended that the class designated by the Librarian include a 90-day transitional period to allow unlocking by those who may acquire phones shortly after the new exemption goes into effect…

A petition has been started to change this and you can sign up for it here as there will be grave consequences for some here..

As of right now they are at 93,655 signatures of the 100,000 needed for the O’bama administration to get involved (though it used to only be 25,000)

So as of January 26, consumers will no longer be able unlock their phones for use on a different network without carrier permission, even after their contract has expired.

Peer the petition… Consumers will be forced to pay exorbitant roaming fees to make calls while traveling abroad. It reduces consumer choice, and decreases the resale value of devices that consumers have paid for in full.

Nice Post from By  | The Lookout – Tue, Jan 8, 2013

When the receipt arrived, it must have looked a little strange. Or at least a bit less expensive than the Red Robin restaurant customers were expecting.

The Consumerist has the scoop. A husband and his (very) pregnant wife went out for a meal at their local Red Robin in North Carolina. During the meal, the manager came over to the couple and joked about how the dinner might be the couple’s last meal before having another mouth to feed.

Then came the pleasant surprise. The manager comped the woman’s meal. On the receipt he wrote, “MOM 2 BEE GOOD LUC.”

Husband Jason wrote into the Consumerist and said, “It was a pleasant surprise and made my tired of being pregnant wife a little more cheery.”

Of course, restaurant receipts with messages on them are nothing new—it’s just that this one actually was nice.

As you are probably aware these lil receipt notes have caused quite a stir lately for some in a negative way.

THIS WAS AWESOME in THE FEEL GOOD DEPOT kind of way.

Mr. Manager… while we don’t know who you are or what store you manage… YOU TOTALLY FREAKING ROCK and THank You for being so AWESOME!!! You deserve some good Karma!!!

HOLY CRAP!!!! What is the world coming too.

NEWTOWN, Conn. — A shooting at a Connecticut elementary school Friday left 27 people dead, including 18 children, an official said.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still under way. Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity for the same reason, said the gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown was killed and apparently had two guns.

Stephen Delgiadice said his 8-year-old daughter heard two big bangs and teachers told her to get in a corner. His daughter was fine.

“It’s alarming, especially in Newtown, Connecticut, which we always thought was the safest place in America,” he said.

The superintendent’s office said the district had locked down schools in Newtown, about 60 miles northeast of New York City. Schools in neighboring towns also were locked down as a precaution.

A dispatcher at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps said a teacher had been shot in the foot and taken to Danbury Hospital. Andrea Rynn, a spokeswoman at the hospital, said it had three patients from the school but she did not have information on the extent or nature of their injuries.

State police said Newtown police called them about 9:40 a.m. A SWAT team was among the throngs of police to respond.

A photo posted by The Newtown Bee newspaper showed a group of young students — some crying, others looking visibly frightened — being escorted by adults through a parking lot in a line, hands on each other’s shoulders.

Mergim Bajraliu, 17, heard the gunshots echo from his home and raced to check on his 9-year-old sister at the school. He said his sister, who was fine, heard a scream come over the intercom at one point. He said teachers were shaking and crying as they came out of the building.

“Everyone was just traumatized,” he said.

The White House said President Barack Obama was notified of the shooting.
